International Women’s Day 2023
Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.
At PKF, we want to better understand the world around us and strive to find solutions to challenges. International Women’s Day gives us the opportunity to reflect on the issues that women have overcome while identifying what more needs to be done.
This International Women’s Day, we spoke to some of our incredible women from across the firm, and asked them what this day means to them and what part they can play in embracing equity.
Mercedes Bragg – Assistant Manager
"International Women’s Day is a celebration of the achievements of the women before us, surrounding us and who will follow us. I play my part by listening and supporting others around me, making sure we take up space in the places we were once made to feel small, showing that all those who identify as women are capable, strong beings."
Jenni Lawrence – Director
"International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight that there are still very many inequalities for women across the world – 50% of the planet, world, universe. I play my part by ensuring that we educate people about the many seemingly “invisible” assumptions and inequalities that women face that people don’t even see."
Taku Saburi – Assistant Manager
"International Women’s Day is a day of reflection and celebration of how far the world has come to eradicate harmful gender stereotypes and instead embark on a journey towards the equality of all people, no matter how different they are. It’s a day that humbles me as I consider my own footprint on social injustice issues and at the same time, encourages me to always do better than yesterday.
"I play my part by helping and encouraging my team to move from point A to B. Through understanding how I can make one person’s day a little better with my presence and my contribution, I strive to live a life of service and empathy. I think we get consumed by “big” – when instead it should be atomic. Just a little bit makes a big difference."
Justine Sacarello – General Counsel
"International Women’s Day is a special day to celebrate being one of nearly 4 billion women in the world. That’s an awesome team to be part of! Although many women no longer need to break glass ceilings to participate in their chosen profession, that is sadly not the case for the majority.
"I play my part by acknowledging the daily need to embrace equity; being mindful of everyone’s unique journey - their ambitions, hopes and dreams, and always being aware that each person starts that journey from a different place, facing an array of diverse challenges along the way."
Selina Edis – Partner
"International Women’s Day is a celebration of all women and everything we have accomplished. I play my part by giving everyone the support they need, individually tailored to them, and understand that everyone is on a different journey."
Clare Giltrow – Director
"International Women’s Day is a celebration of women around the globe, and all of our achievements. I play my part by understanding that everyone has different circumstances and requires different things to reach an equal outcome."
Cheryl Court – Partner
"International Women’s Day reminds us of the importance of creating an inclusive world, where everyone feels valued and is free to be themselves. I’m pleased to say that I’ve never felt that my opportunities have been restricted because I’m female but I want to play my part in making sure that everyone else also has the same chance to fulfil their potential."
Catherine Heyes – Partner
"International Women’s Day is a celebration of the achievements of women, whilst also remembering the barriers that still have to be overcome across the world. I play my part by ensuring we have a diverse team at PKF, comprising of people from all over the world, from a variety of different communities and social backgrounds. I want everyone to be given the same opportunity to progress and succeed, whilst acknowledging that not everyone starts from the same place."
