Institutional donor audits

Donors, both national and international, operate in a dynamic environment, where transparency and oversight of public funding are paramount. Grant beneficiaries need to understand this environment, the corresponding rules and regulations, and the means whereby the grant provider will judge the eligibility of claims for reimbursement from grant funds.

PKF’s dedicated institutional donor audit team has extensive experience of undertaking financial audits and verifications, systems audits, pillar assessments, procurement audits, fraud investigations, performance audits and pre-grant due diligence reviews on behalf of major international donors. We hold contracts for audit services with the European Commission, DfID, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Our experience has led us to audit programmes covering research, humanitarian aid, development aid, energy, transport, medicine, health, education, culture and the environment.

A particular specialism of ours is working with NGOs, International Organisations and UN entities implementing humanitarian and development projects funded by the EU. Our work in this area takes us to grantee headquarters within Europe and also to the field, to ensure that funding is spent in line with project objectives and fulfils the eligibility criteria of the grant agreement.

The international aspect of our work sees us collaborating with PKF offices around the globe, drawing on local expertise and languages in order to complete our assignments. We regularly undertake assignments across the EU and associated countries, the European Neighbourhood region, Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia and Latin America.

PKF will help you understand the contractual rules and obligations of grant agreements. We work with universities, research institutes, charities, SMEs and technology companies, providing advice and training on the legal framework within which grant contracts operate. Our PKF team provides the following client services:

  • FP7 and Horizon 2020 certifications (CFS)
  • Innovate UK accountant’s report
  • NIH audit
  • systems health checks for receiving EU funding
  • ad hoc grant audits.

With our office in Brussels, we regularly meet with EU officials to gain insight on the key issues facing grant beneficiaries, as well as details of key changes and updates. We share our knowledge through tailored training  and roundtable discussions.
