First Live Event
Employers Club
On Tuesday 17 May 2022, we held the first in person event for our newly established ‘Employers’ Club’. Thank you to all of whose who attended and helped make it a great success.
We launched the club in September 2021 because we believe that collaboration can be a very effective tool and we wanted to provide a forum for professionals whether in HR, payroll, finance or who simply have an interest, to meet and share their experiences, knowledge and concerns.
COVID-19 has meant that many of us have not been able to get together in person until now and the benefits of meeting up were immediately recognisable. We heard from attendees that it was the first time they had attended a “live” event since the beginning of the pandemic.
Dan Kelly, Senior Manager in our Human Capital team, provided valuable insight into hybrid working, what can be classed as a temporary workplace and the subtle changes that HMRC have made to the £6 a week working from home allowance that many people claimed over the past 18 months.
Louise Fryer, Head of Global Mobility, focused on the additional complexities that exist when an employee wants to work outside of the UK under hybrid working or where an individual moved overseas during the pandemic and may have created reporting obligations for the company outside of the UK.
We were very pleased to be joined by Charles Avens, Head of Immigration at Druces LLP. Charles gave us a whistle-stop tour of the new visa regime in the UK and also shared his expertise on what a good employment contract should look like and the rights an employer has if employees challenge a request to return to the office after working from home during COVID-19.
We then adjourned for the social element of the evening where we were able to catch up with our clients and meet new people.
We look forward to future get togethers, round table events, panel discussions and of course we are always open to ideas! Get in touch with the team if you have any suggestions for topics.
It was a very positive, engaging and rewarding evening and we are very much looking forward to hosting our next event in September.
In the meantime, we are establishing our LinkedIn group (register your interest here) and you can find our quarterly bulletins here.
